Butler, Mary Ellen Claar
December 14, 1859 - November 5, 1929

Wife of John S. Butler of Taylor township, died at her home this morning at 12:10 o'clock, death coming suddenly and without indication that she had been ill. Mrs. Butler did her work about the family home and the week's washing yesterday as usual and retired last night apparently in her usual health and did not complain of being ill, but shortly after midnight she was stricken and died before a physician could be summoned.
She was born in Bedford County, Dec. 14, 1859, the daughter of Abraham and Catherine (Roudabush) Claar, both deceased, and thirteen years ago was united in marriage with Mr. Butler, who survives, with the following children: Emory Wilbur, Francis Samuel, Paul Abraham., Oscar John and Dorothy Marie, all at home.
She is also survived by two brothers and one sister, William Claar of Taylor township, David Claar of Roaring Spring and Lucinda Longhorn of East Freedom.
She was a member of the Roaring Spring Mennonite Church, where funeral services will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, in charge of the pastor, Rev J. G. Snyder. Interment will be made in the Greenlawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Mary Ellen Claar Butler, wife of John S. Butler, Taylor township, died suddenly at her home Tuesday morning at 11:15 o'clock following an illness of a few minutes. Mrs Butler, throughout the day worked at the regular routine duties, and completed the family washing, and was apparently not ill until near midnight when she informed her husband of her illness and before the aid of a physician could be obtained, Mrs. Butler died.

She is the mother ot six children, five of whom are living.

She was a daughter of Abraham and Catharine Claar, both deceased and was born at Bedford county, December 14, 1889. About 13 years ago she was united in marriage to John S. Butler of Dry Gap, and the following children, survive with her husband, Dorothy Marie, Emory Willard, Francis Samuel, Paul Abraham, and Oscar John, also two brothers and a sister, William Claar, Taylor township; David Claar, Roaring Spring, and Mrs. Lucinda Lamburn, East Freedom. She was a member of the Roaring Spring Mennonite church and funeral service will be held in the Mennonite church Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock in charge of the pastor, the Rev. Jacob G. Sny­der. Interment will be in Greenlawn cemetery.
